NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Two members of the Carleton College women's track & field team got an early start on the outdoor season by competing in races during Spring Break. Libby Rowland won the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Bill Schmidt Classic hosted by the University of North Texas while Mary Blanchard finished fifth in the 1500-meter race at Ross and Sharon Irwin Invite in San Diego, Calif.
 
On Friday in Dentaon, Texas, Rowland led her entire race and clocked a personal-best finishing time of 11:34.10. She is currently 10th on Carleton's all-time performance list.
 
Blanchard placed fifth out of 23 finishers in the 1500-meter race held at Point Loma Nazarene University on Saturday. Her time of 4:45.61 was tops among the seven NCAA Division III racers at this meet.

Carleton will compete as a team at the Hamline Invitational on April 6.
