MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Carleton College men's swimming & diving team won the 400-yard freestyle relay on the final day of competition at the First Chance Meet hosted by the University of Minnesota.
This unscored competition began on Friday and continued with morning and evening sessions on Saturday. It served as the final competition of the season for seven members of the roster who are not expected to compete at next week's MIAC Championships.
The Knights posted season-best times in almost every swim on Saturday, beginning with
Christopher Maring (4:41.25) in the 400-yard individual medley
In the 200-yard freestyle,
Aidan Jalili took fourth place in the 18-person field with a time of 1:49.35. Teammate
Max Serota came in fifth at 1:52.76. Both Knights bettered their previous season best by more than six seconds.
Theo Hill (1:56.74) and
Charlie Ruppe (1:57.79) also set season top times in the event.
Will Tan set season bests in both the 100-yard (59.05) and 200-yard (2:09.99) backstroke races.
Serota earned a third-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle, finishing in 18:31.21, good for more than a 46-second improvement over his seed time.
As they did in the longer freestyle distance, the quartet of Jalili (50.20), Hill (50.89), Ruppe (51.13) and Serota (52.63) each bested his respective seed time. They placed fourth, seventh, eighth, and 11th overall.
Maring had a season-best in the 200-yard breaststroke after covering the distance.
The weekend concluded with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Tan, Jalili, Hill, and Ruppe combined on a time of 3:23.84.
