MINNEAPOLIS – Carleton College sophomore
Soren Kaster set six indoor personal bests and went on to win the heptathlon at the M City Indoor Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota. Among the competitors that he bested over the two-day event were two NCAA Division I student-athletes.
Kaster totaled 4,506 points and moved into second place in team history (see chart below) behind Colby Seyferth's 4,654-point effort in winning the heptathlon at the 2015 MIAC Championships.
Kaster established new indoor PRs in all four events on day one. He clocked a time of 7.46 in the 60-meter dash and followed that up by measuring 6.08 meters in the long jump, smashing his previous indoor PR by 1.5 feet and setting a new overall personal best.
He improved his previous top mark in the indoor shot put by more than five feet as he measured 10.80 meters and concluded Friday's action by clearing 1.68 meters in the high jump, a new overall PR by more than two inches.
Day two saw Kaster clock a time of 9.24 in the 60-meter hurdles, another personal best and tying him for 10th in team history. He then climbed from third place in the overall standings to first place thanks to a strong showing in the pole vault as Kaster cleared 4.30 meters on his first attempt, making him 6-for-6 in indoor PRs. That height ranks No. 7 in team history for the indoor pole vault.
Kaster completed the 1000-meter run in 2:54.57 and secured the 19-point victory.
