NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's cross country team took fourth at the MIAC Championships. Gabe Nichols was the Knights' top finisher, placing seventh overall with a time of 25:14.4.
 
No. 9-ranked St. Olaf College won the team crown with a score of 23 points. Saint John's University was second at 96 points, followed by Macalester College (104 points) and Carleton (106 points).
 
"We were seeded fourth as a team coming in," said Carleton head coach Dave Ricks. "We had a great day."
 
Roy Llewellyn joined Nichols on the All-MIAC squad as he placed 12th with a time of 25:27.9.
 
Indy Lyness edged Josh Maier for 31st place with the former crossing the line at 26:14.3 and the latter a half-second behind. Ravi Achar rounded out the scoring for Carleton as he took 38th place at 26:34.8.
 
"Indy (2024 MIAC Outdoor 800m champion), Josh Meier (2023 MIAC Indoor 800m Champion), and Ravi all gave everything they had with big closing kicks" Ricks said. "They really gave us a shot at Macalester and Saint John's. We finished much closer to those two teams than anticipated."
 
Pranav Khadkikar and Travis Brown were also among the Knights' top-seven runners, taking 44th and 50th places, respectively, as they crossed the line at 26:41.8 and 26:56.0.
 
"Six of our top 11 were competing in their first year of collegiate cross country," noted Ricks. "Only 1 of our top 12 will be graduating, so the future is bright. Overall, it was a great day for cross country."

Carleton hosts the NCAA North Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 16. The women's race is set for 11:00 a.m. with the men's competition slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
