BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Carleton College midfielders
Owen Flanagan and
Briggs Priem were named to the All-MIAC Men's Soccer team for 2024, while forward
Ben Pennell received All-MIAC Honorable Mention. Additionally, Flanagan and Pennell were tabbed to the conference's All-Playoff Team.
Flanagan and Priem were two of only six midfielders chosen for this year's 22-player all-conference squad.
Flanagan garnered all-conference recognition for the first time. He paced the Knights with 12 goals on the season, tied for second most among MIAC players this season. He added six assists—two of which came on game-winning goals—for a team-best 30 points, ranking sixth among conference players this year and the fifth-highest single-season total in program history. Flanagan totaled 26 goals in his career, tied for fourth in team history, while ranking sixth with 65 points over his four seasons.
Priem—who was all-conference honorable mention in 2023—plays primarily as a defensive midfielder but still registered five goals to rank third on the Knights and added five assists. He delivered in the clutch, registering a trio of game-winning goals to tie for fourth-most among MIAC players while contributing assists on three other game winners. Priem had totaled 14 goals and 13 assists over his first three seasons with the Knights.
Pennell, an All-MIAC and All-Region pick last fall, missed half the 2024 season due to injury, but his impact for the Knights was obvious. He played 10 games on the season and scored in each of the final six games on the schedule, totaling eight goals—tied for 10th overall in the MIAC—and added four assists to total 20 points. His 0.8 goals per game and 2.00 points per game were tops among MIAC players this fall. Pennell registered his first career hat trick in the playoff win at Bethel University and now has 23 career goals over his first three seasons, tied for the 10th-highest total in program history. He is tied for eighth in team annals with 59 career points.
Carleton went 12-5-3 overall, including a 6-4-0 ledger in league games. The Knights extended their conference record of 17 consecutive trips to the MIAC Playoffs, where they defeated Bethel in the first round, 5-2, before falling to No. 4-ranked Gustavus Adolphus, 3-2, in the semifinals. In that latter contest, Carleton was on the front foot for much of the match, out-shooting the vaunted Gusties by a 27-12 margin, owning an 11-5 edge in corner kicks, and holding a 60-40 edge in possession time.
