NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's cross country team placed 10th at the 21-team Running of the Cows meet. Roy Llewellyn was the top finisher for the Knights, crossing the line at 25:30.6, good for 11th in a field of 315 racers.
 
"The course was in great shape today and led to some fast times," said Carleton head coach Dave Ricks. "Roy Llewellyn had a race that was indicative of his level of fitness. He put in a great summer of training and coupled that with a good race plan today."
 
The Knights, who have been racing with two of their top three runners sidelined by injury, finished right behind Minnesota State—a NCAA Division II program—in the team standings and six spots ahead of University of Minnesota-Crookston, another D-II squad.
 
"With Roy clearly our front-runner, we have a nice supporting pack of guys that are helping each other," noted Ricks. "They are coming along exactly how we were hoping." 
 
Josh Meier was next across the line for Carleton, finishing at 26:52.3 to place 74th overall. Ryan Bernstein finished 88th with a time of 27:12.1
 
Travis Brown posted a time of 27:19.0 to finish 103rd, while Ravi Achar was 140th at 27:47.4.
 
"(Senior) Josh Meier had one of his best races ever, as did (junior) Andrew Jamison (28:01.4)," said Ricks.
 
No. 14 St. Olaf College won the team competition with a score of 72. MSOE was next at 101 points, with UW-Stevens Point (113), Carthage College (116), and UW-Platteville (130) rounding out the top five. Mohammed Bati of Augsburg was the individual champion with a time of 24:13.4.

Carleton heads to the Lewis & Clark Invitational in Oregon on Saturday, Oct. 19. That will be the final competition before the Knights race at the MIAC Championships in November.
