Men's Swimming and Diving

Knight compete well but come up short in dual meet vs. Gustavus Adolphus

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's swimming & diving team won 6 of 16 events during Friday night's dual meet with Gustavus Adolphus College. The Knights lost 171-127 but posted their highest point total against the Gusties—winners of the last four MIAC titles—since prevailing in the team's 2016 meeting by a 182-106 margin.

"Today was a great day of racing and diving by both of our teams," said Carleton head coach Andy Clark. "Going against two very strong Gustavus teams, we knew we would need big efforts and performances from every team member to have a chance at winning. The women had an incredible meet, and it was a huge team achievement to beat Gustavus. For the men, even though we didn't come out with a victory, races were extremely close, and the guys battled the entire way making the meet one of the closest we have had against Gustavus in years."

Hans Anderson swept the diving competitions, and Ethan Tun pulled off a double by prevailing in both the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM.

Rookies John Rosseel and Jackson Rankin had the other victories for the Knights. The former was first to the wall in the 1,000-yard freestyle, while the later triumphed in the 200-yard butterfly.

Rosseel earned Carleton's first victory as he teamed up with Sam Glaubitz to post a 1-2 result in the 1,000 freestyle. Rosseel covered the distance in 10:29.50, while his teammate clocked a time of 10:35.62.

Ian Scott (1:47.98) and Tun (53.06) were out-touched by Gustavus swimmers in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, respectively.

Anderson secured the Knights' next win, winning the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 269.25, good for a 60-point margin of victory. Later on he scored 253.95 in winning the 3-meter clash.

Josh Wu came up just short in the 100-yard freestyle, as he was out-touched by 0.12 second after clocking a time of 48.77.

Tun notched his first triumph with a convincing result in the 200 breaststroke. He clocked a time of 2:12.80, winning by more than 4.3 seconds. The 200-yard IM was possibly the most exciting race of the session as 0.05 second separated the top three finishers. Tun edged teammate Nicholas Chang 2:01.48 to 2:01.50 for top honors.

Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will travel to Collegeville, Minn., to face Saint John's University in a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 20.
