Knights continue best start in program history (12-0) with win over Oberlin in Spring Break finale

Box Score HILTON HEAD, SC – Led by wins in singles and doubles by Mary Hose (Jr./Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) and Mariam Nechiporuk (So./Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego), the Carleton Colege women's tennis team wrapped up its Spring Break trip with an 8-1 victory over Oberlin College. The Knights improved to 12-0 on the season, the best start to a campaign in recorded team history (see chart below).

The match was much closer than the team score suggests.

Hose and Amelia Asfaw (So./Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep) prevailed at No. 1 doubles by an 8-6 score with Nechiporuk and Ingrid Smith (So./Edina, Minn./Edina) winning at the second slot by the identical score.

Three of the top four singles matches necessitated super tiebreakers.

Oberlin picked up its lone team point when Marta Laska outlasted Asfaw by a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) margin atop the lineup. Hose picked up her third win in as many days, defeating her opponent at No. 2 singles by a 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4) tally.

Nechiporuk cruised to the win at No. 3 singles, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 to improve to 8-0 on the season. Miriam Shteyman (So./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) rallied from a set down to win 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (11-9) at the fourth slot.

The No 3 doubles, No. 5 singles, and No. 6 singles matches were not played and went into the Carleton win Column due to Oberlin not having enough available players.
