BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – First-year Gabe Nichols (Fy./Grove City, Penn./Grove City) finished 16th in the mile run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday.   
 
Nichols, who entered the day seeded 12th in the event, finished with a time of 4:13.92 in his debut at the national meet.  Nichols secured his spot in the field after winning the mile run with a facility and meet-record time of 4:09.45 at the Wartburg Last Chance meet last weekend.  The performance saw him bolster his rank on the NCAA performance list from the mid-30s all the way to his 12th seed. 
 
Nichols' performance at the Wartburg Last Chance meet places him third on the all-time Carleton top-10 list.
