NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Rookies won three times for the Carleton College men's track & field team as the Knights finished fourth of eight teams at the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic hosted by Macalester College. The Knights totaled eight top-five results.
One week after winning the 1K and 3K races, newcomer
Gabe Nichols (Fy./Grove City, Penn./Grove City) prevailed in the mile run with a time of 4:17.56. That bettered the meet record by 16.5 seconds.
Alistair Pattison (Jr./St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) took third in the 800-meter run, crossing the line at 2:02.85.
Indy Lyness (Fy./Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) won the 1000-meter run with a furious finishing kick that led to a meet record time of 2:35.08.
Jeremy Fong (Sr./Niiza-Shi, Japan/Christian Academy in Japan) and
Josh Meier (So./Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) were fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 2:36.86 (new PR) and 2:36.90.
Roy Llewellyn (Fy./Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) smashed the meet record by more than 13 seconds in winning the 3000-meter run with his time of 8:39.85. He exchanged the lead with 2022 MIAC Cross Country champion Mohamed Bati before taking over in the final five laps.
Elijah Jones (Sr./Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) placed fourth with a 17-second PR of 8:45.00.
Carleton finished second in the 4x400-meter relay after
Liam Kennedy (Jr./St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Central), Pattison, Fong, and Meier combined on a time of 3:34.09.
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton has two meets on the schedule for Jan. 27-28. Most of the team will head to the Mark Shuck Open hosted by Minnesota State University–Mankato while the heptathletes compete at the St. Olaf Multis.
