Grace Blanchette and Sydney Marsh grab all-conference recognition at MIAC Heptathlon; Eve Farrell places ninth

Day 1 Recap

NORTHFIELD, Minn. --- Carleton College women's track & field team members Grace Blanchette (Jr./Honolulu , Hawaii/Punahou), Sydney Marsh (Sr./Austin, Minn./Austin), and Eve Farrell (Sr./Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi) each finished with career-best point totals at the MIAC Heptathlon.

Blanchette amassed 4,143 points and finished third overall to earn All-MIAC status. Marsh collected 3,989 points to take fourth place, good for all-conference honorable mention. Farrell accrued 3,397 points as she finished in ninth place. Concordia's Peyton Selle successfully defended her conference title by accumulating 4,322 points this year.

"I am very proud of these heptathletes," said Carleton head coach Donna Ricks. "Their performances were outstanding, although it is bitter sweet as Sydney and Eve are seniors. It has been a great four years. They are passing the torch in grand style, and there is no doubt that Grace will miss their presence on and off the track.

"All three set lifetime bests with their overall two-day score; it's what an athlete strives for at the end of their season."

This is the first time since 2003—when Kim Davis took second place and Kristi Colbenson finished third—that Carleton saw multiple women earn all-conference or all-conference honorable mention in the heptathlon.

Blanchette moved up from fourth to third place during Friday's portion of the competition. She measured 4.74 meters in the long jump, a personal-best 32.39 meters in the javelin, and 2:35.61 in the 800-meter run.

Marsh was seventh after the first day, but was able to improve multiple spots after posting the top mark in the field for the long jump (5.10 meters) as well as a personal-best 31.69 meters in the javelin, and 2:33.78 in the 800-meer race.

Farrell registered 4.34 meters in the long jump, 20.93 meters in the javelin throws, and nearly clocked the top time of 2:33.25 during the 800-meter race.

Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will send a small group of student-athletes to compete at the Ole Open on Saturday, May 7 at 11:00 AM.
