NORTHFIELD, Minn. – After the first day of competition at the MIAC Decathlon, Carleton College sophomore Ian Mortensen (Shoreline, Wash./Shorecrest) is eighth out of 18 entrants.
 
Mortensen started with a time of 11.72 in the 100-meter dash. He then registered 5.96 meters in the long jump and 9.93 meters in the shot put. He cleared 1.67 meters in the high jump and clocked a time of 52.18 in the 400-meter dash.
 
Overall, he has accumulated 3,003 points over the first five events. Stephen Peper of St. Olaf leads the pack with a score of 3,649 points.
