COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Carleton College women's track & field team took third place out of 10 schools at the CSB-SJU invitational on Saturday. Overall, the Knights won five individual events and a relay.
"The team did a tremendous job today," said Carleton head coach
Donna Ricks. "There was good competition all the way around, and the athletes responded with five first-place finishes and numerous personal bests. I am very proud of their efforts."
The meet began with
Clara Mayfield (Jr./Manhattan, Kan./Manhattan) turning in a personal best in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:41.51. Both she and event winner Fiona Smith of Saint Benedict smashed the Clemens Stadium record by more than 2:50, and Mayfield eclipsed her previous PR by 52 seconds and is in excellent position to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in late May.
Helen Cross (So./Nederland, Colo./Nederland) broke the meet record in winning the 1500-meter run with a personal-best time of 4:51.83. Overall, the Knights put seven runners inside the top-15 for this event and 10 within the top-15.
The next race saw
Nayeli Williams (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./Brooklyn Center) edge teammate
Grace Blanchette (Jr./Honolulu , Hawaii/Punahou) for the top finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Williams crossed the line at 16.35 with Blanchette at 16.41.
Jocelyn Ferguson (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South) was 1 of 3 racers in the 800-meter run to better the previous meet record. She was the top Division III finisher and placed second overall with a personal-best time of 2:21.28.
Phoebe Ward (So./Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Dobbs Ferry) crushed the meet record by nearly 80 seconds while posting the top time in the 5000-meter run. She crossed the line at 18:28.74, more than 17 seconds better than her previous PR.
The track portion of the meet concluded with a Carleton victory in the 4x400-meter relay as Ferguson,
Amy Kropp (Sr./Logan, Utah/Logan),
Alice Cutter (So./New York, N.Y./Poly Prep Day School), and
Sydney Marsh (Sr./Austin, Minn./Austin) combined on a time of 4:11.79
The Knights added victories in two field events as Marsh cleared 3.20 meters in the pole vault, and
Eve Farrell (Sr./Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi) measured 1.55 meters in the high jump for her best showing since 2019.

Carleton will spend the next two weeks focusing on training and technical work in preparation for the Carleton Relays on Saturday, April 23.
