DES MOINES, Iowa – Carleton College junior Clara Mayfield (Manhattan, Kan./Manhattan) eclipsed her own school record for the 5000-meter run when she clocked a time of 16:33.04 on Thursday evening at the famous Drake Relays.
 
Mayfield's time placed her 9th out of 21 finishers in the event. She raced in the seeded finals of the event, which included 13 NCAA Division I runners and three more from D-II.
 
The unseeded women's 5K—a separate event at this meet—saw another 24 Division I runners compete, with all of them posting times above 16:49.
 
Mayfield's time is more than 11 seconds better than she posted earlier this season at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival at UCLA.

Carleton is slated to compete on Saturday, April 30 at the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational hosted by Macalester College.
