NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Competing in very windy conditions on Saturday, the Carleton College women's track & field team won four events at the Carleton Relays and turned in four additional runner-up results. The Knights finished third out of 10 teams.
"Our team put forth great effort in these strong winds," said Carleton head coach
Donna Ricks. "This meet wasn't about achieving personal bests, although we did accomplish a few. It was about mental toughness and knowing that you can still accomplish some great feats in adverse conditions."
Sydney Marsh (Sr./Austin, Minn./Austin) and
Gabrielle Evans (Sr./Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) finished 1-2 in the pole vault. Marsh soared a personal best 3.26 meters, while Evans cleared 3.11 meters.
Jocelyn Ferguson (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South) won the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 1:00.09. She teamed with
Nayeli Williams (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./Brooklyn Center),
Amy Kropp (Sr./Logan, Utah/Logan), and Marsh for a nearly seven-second victory (season-best 4:10.71) in the 4x400-meter relay.
Eve Farrell (Sr./Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi) won the high jump after clearing 1.52 meters.
Clara Mayfield (Jr./Manhattan, Kan./Manhattan) and
Helen Cross (So./Nederland, Colo./Nederland) took second and third, respectively, in the 1500-meter run with times of 4:45.33 and 4:51.42, the latter a new personal best.
Phoebe Ward (So./Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Dobbs Ferry) took fifth in the same event with a time of 5:02.89.
Libby Rowland (Fy./Tulsa, Okla./Holland Hall) was the runner up and
Sophie McManus (Fy./McCall, Idaho/McCall-Donnelly) placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with their respective times of 12:15.45 and 12:28.79. For both Knights it was their first time competing collegiately in the event.
Carleton's entry in the 4x100-meter took second with a time of 51.60.
Williams was also the runner up in the long jump after measuring an outdoor personal-best 4.94 meters.
Other top-5 results for Carleton:

Audrey Parrott (Fy./Green Isle, Minn./Sibley East) took third in her first time running the 400-meter hurdles (1:14.33).

Grace Blanchette (Jr./Honolulu , Hawaii/Punahou) finished third in the javelin (personal best 32.06 meters) and tied for fifth in the high jump (1.42 meters).
• Kropp was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.11.
• Carleton's second entry in the 4x400 relay placed fourth at 4:33.37.
