ST. PAUL, Minn. –
Ben Santos (Sr./Boulder, Colo./Boulder) won the steeplechase as the Carleton College men's track & field team competed on Saturday at the Hamline Invitational, the first full-squad meet of the outdoor season. Overall, the Knights posted seven top-5 results during the meet that featured 16 schools.
Santos won the steeplechase with a time of 9:35.53, tops in the MIAC so far this season. He demonstrated his superior water-jumping ability to gain a slight advantage each time he went over the water jump. The only runners within 30 seconds of Santos were a trio from the University of Minnesota (NCAA Division I).
Ethan Ash (So./Oakland, Calif./Head-Royce School) made his debut at the 1500-meter distance and took second out of 75 runners with a MIAC-leading time of 4:03.74.
Stephen Lavey (Sr./Cedar Grove, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium),
Adam Nakasaka (Sr./Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), and
Henry Bowman (Jr./Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) finished 3-4-6 (out of 54 total racers) in the 5000-meter run. Lavey posted the second-fastest outdoor 5K time (14:53.25) of his career, while Nakasaka (15:00.28) and Bowman (15:05.24) established new outdoor PRs.
Bridger Rives' (Sr./Skiatook, Okla./Bishop Kelley) big day including crossing the finish line fourth in the 400-meter dash at 51.05, setting a new personal-best of 23.22 in the 200-meter dash, and anchoring the Knights' third-place result in the 4x400 relay, where he teamed with Ash,
Josh Meier (Fy./Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge), and
Alistair Pattison (So./St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) on a time of 3:28.87, second-fastest among MIAC squads this season.
Noah Eckersley-Ray (Jr./Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) had the top performance for Carleton in the field events, taking fourth place in the javelin with a personal-best toss of 49.70 meters.
