MANKATO, Minn. – The Carleton College men's track & field team took a partial squad to compete at the Ted Nelson Classic, hosted by Minnesota State-Mankato. The Knights recorded eight top-10 results at the 10-team meet, which included four NCAA Division II programs, as well as two other nationally-ranked squads.
Owen Schuster (Sr./Batavia, Ill./Batavia) matched his career best as he cleared 4.33 meters for the second consecutive week to finish fifth overall in the pole vault.
Ian Mortensen (So./Shoreline, Wash./Shorecrest) smashed his career best in the event by 19 inches when he cleared 4.18 meters and tied for sixth place.
Aravindh Subramanian (Jr./Dayton, N.J./South Brunswick) tied for eighth in the high jump. He cleared 1.80 meters to tie his season best.
Elijah Jones (Jr./Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) was the second D-III runner across the line when he finished with a personal-best time of 4:31.73 to place ninth.
Ben Perry (Sr./Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn) raced his way to an indoor PR in the 800-meter run, placing fourth overall with a time of 2:01.06.
Chris Melville (So./Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson) turned in Carleton's top placement of the day, taking third in the 5,000-meter run with a personal best time of 15:31.10.
Ben Aoki-Sherwood (Jr./Robbinsdale, Minn./Armstrong) cracked the top 10 with his time of 16:07.34.
The day concluded with the 4x400-meter relay. Mortenesen, Perry, Jones, and
Oscar Christoph (Sr./Tacoma, Wash./Wilson) combined on a time of 3:34.53, which won its heat and was good for sixth place.
