NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Stephen Lavey (Sr./Cedar Grove, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) won the 5,000-meter run, which was one of several highlights for the Carleton College men's track & field team on Day 2 of the MIAC Indoor Championships. The Knights turned in nine results that garnered either All-MIAC recognition or all-conference honor mention.
 
Carleton sits fifth out of 11 teams at the meet through the first 11 events. Saint John's leads the way with 102 points followed by Concordia (65 points) with Bethel (56), St. Olaf (55), and Carleton (50) rounding out the top five.
 
Carleton ran 10 races on the track tonight, and all 10 turned in personal-best times. The first to do so was Lavey, who was 1 of 4 Knights to score points in the 5000-meter race. His winning time of 14:31.30 ranks 14th in the nation. Henry Bowman (Jr./Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) and Adam Nakasaka (Sr./Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) finished fourth and sixth respectively, earning All-MIAC honorable mention. Bowman crossed the line at 14:57.03 with Nakasaka doing so at 14:58.38. Chris Melville (So./Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson) was a pleasant surprise in taking eighth place with his time of 15:18.74.
 
Carleton saw unexpected success in the 800-meter run as Ethan Ash (So./Oakland, Calif./Head-Royce School) was the event runner up at 1:56.31, while Josh Meier (Fy./Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and Alistair Pattison (So./St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) finished fourth and sixth, respectively, at 1:57.87 and 1:59.77. Ash and Meier both passed Saint John's runners in the final 10 meters, while Pattison won his heat. Neither Meier or Pattison had run a collegiate 800-meter race before last weekend.
 
Ben Santos (Sr./Boulder, Colo./Boulder) finish the mile run in 4:17.73, good for a sixth-place finish and all-conference honorable mention.
 
Owen Schuster (Sr./Batavia, Ill./Batavia) cleared 4.28 meters in the pole vault, tied for fourth place and earning All-MIAC honorable mention.
 
Friday's action was capped by a runner up finish in the distance medley relay. Ben Perry (Sr./Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn), Bridger Rives (Sr./Skiatook, Okla./Bishop Kelley), Elijah Jones (Jr./Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead), and Santos posted a time of 10:27.23.
 
The final day of competition at the MIAC Championships begins with field events at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday with running events starting at 1:00 p.m.
