NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Stephen Lavey (Sr./Cedar Grove, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) won the mile run to lead a 1-2-3-4 finish in the event for the Carleton College men's indoor track & field team at the Carleton Triangular on Friday evening. The session was capped by Daniel Scheider (So./Claremont, Calif./Claremont) anchoring the Knights' narrow victory in the 4x400-meter relay.
 
Lavey won the mile with a time of 4:19,27, good for a new personal-best by more than 11 seconds. Ben Santos (Sr./Boulder, Colo./Boulder) was next across at 4:20.38, also establishing a new PR. That duo currently ranks No. 15 and No. 18, respectively, in the nation.
 
Henry Bowman (Jr./Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) continued the Carleton control of the podium in the event with a new personal-best time of time 4:30.34, while Ben Perry (Sr./Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn) clocked a time of 4:33.85 in taking fourth place.
 
All five Carleton racers in the 3000-meter run recorded new PRs, including Adam Nakasaka (Sr./Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) eclipsed his previous personal best in the 3000-meter run by 20 seconds and now ranks No. 33 on the national list with a time of 8:43.97.
 
Despite a late lineup change, the meet ended on a high note with the 4x400 relay. Ian Mortensen (So./Shoreline, Wash./Shorecrest) led off and gave Carleton the lead for good, although the race continued to get tighter throughout. Jens Bartel (Fy./Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda) came back from a painful 600-meter performance to keep the lead, and Liam Kennedy (So./St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Central) ran a nice leg to keep Carleton in front. Scheider ran a measured anchor leg to hold off St Olaf for a narrow win. The quartet of Knights clocked a time of 3:36.43, good for a 0.34-second victory.
 
Other top-3 results for Carleton included:
• Scheider also took second in the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:28.58, while Bartel placed third at 1:28.71.
• Santos finished second in the 1000-meter run at 2:35.98.
• Owen Schuster (Sr./Batavia, Ill./Batavia) had a season best of 4.12 meters to take third place in the pole vault.
• Ethan Cline-Cole (Fy./Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Trinity School) was the runner up in the triple jump after measuring 12.00 meters.
• Aravindh Subramanian (Jr./Dayton, N.J./South Brunswick) placed third in the high jump after clearing 1.75 meters.
 
Carleton finished 2nd of 3 teams, totaling 119.5 points. St. Olaf College won the team competition with 287.5 points, while Hamline University was third at 89 points.
