Knights swept at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa — After starting the season with consecutive victories, the Carleton College volleyball team dropped its fourth consecutive match, falling 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-15) at Grinnell College.
 
Carleton (2-4) led the opening game, 15-12, but coming out of a timeout, Grinnell (5-3) went on an 11-2 run—including five aces—to turn the momentum.
 
In the second and third games, early spurts by the Pioneers paved the way to the sweep. The second set was tied 5-5 before an 8-2 run gave the hosts the lead for good. In the finale, it was a 12-5 run by Grinnell that put the home team comfortably ahead.
 
Kaylin Kuhn led the Pioneers with a match-high 15 hills as Grinnell posted a .322 attack percentage, while the Knights hit at a .076 clip.
 
Annelise Sokolow (So./Draper, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) paced Carleton with nine kills, while Inger Shelton (Sr./San Diego, Calif./La Jolla) registered 20 assists, and Kennedy Bombei (Fy./Solon, Iowa/Solon) contributed a match-high 14 digs.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton travels to the Pointer Invitational on Friday-Saturday in Stevens Points, Wis. The Knights face Marian University at 5:00 p.m. on Friday followed immediately by a match versus University of Minnesota-Morris. Carleton concludes the weekend with an 10:00 a.m. match against Beloit College.
