HASTINGS, Minn. – For the second day in a row, the Carleton College men's golf team finished strong, playing the final three holes in a combined three-under par. The Knights remain seventh in the team standings.
Anderson Murphy (So./Coral Gables, Fla./Ransom Everglades) birdied his final two holes and had four birdies in the round as he finished with a 74 (+2). He is currently tied for 19th with a 36-hole total of 151 strokes (+7).
Peter Gullickson (Sr./Edina, Minn./The Blake School) continued his strong play on the par-5s, including back-to-back birdies on No. 16 and No. 17, and turned in a 77 (+5) for the second straight day.
James Berger (So./Los Altos Hills, Calif./Gunn) stumbled a bit on the front nine but played the final 11 holes at one-over and carded a 78 (+6) to tie with Gullickson for 26th place. Berger has 23 pars—tied for fourth in the field—over the first two rounds.
Jackson Stinebaugh (So./New York, N.Y./Horace Mann) played his best golf at the end of the day and turned in an 81 (+9).
Bob Zhu (Fy./Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), who has been competing on an injured knee, withdrew from the tournament.
Carleton's 310 team score matched the Knights' second-lowest round of the abbreviated spring season.

Tee times for Sunday's round were pushed up in an effort to avoid rain and potential thunderstorms later in the day. The Knights are scheduled to tee off at 8:20 a.m.

Thanks to a strong finish that saw the five Knights play the final five holes in a combined two-under par, the Carleton College men's golf team sits seventh after the opening round of the MIAC Championships.
The Knights started slowly as the four scorers were a combined 12-over par through the first three holes. The top three in the lineup—
James Berger,
Peter Gullickson, and
Anderson Murphy found their groove after that, and the rest of the team joined that trio in finishing strong as all five players covered the final five holes at even par or better.
Berger played his final 14 holes at one-over par and wrapped up the round with a 76 (+4) to pace the Knights and tie for 17th in the 45-player field. Gullickson matched Berger's score over the last 14 holes and totaled 77 (+5) strokes, which tied him with Murphy for 22nd place.
Jackson Stinebaugh birdied No. 14 to jumpstart his strong conclusion to the round, allowing him to add an 82 (+10).
Bob Zhu, playing on an injured knee, finished one shot behind Stinebaugh.
