The PEAR Department is taking this opportunity to recognize and celebrate the seniors on our varsity athletic teams. We know that they have poured their hearts and souls into their teams during their time at Carleton and we are excited about what the future holds for each of them. Keep checking back in the coming weeks as we take the time to highlight each of these individuals. Click here for our Senior Spotlight archive.

What are your plans after graduation?    Â
I will eventually be attending graduate school and pursuing a PhD in biochemistry.
Â
What was your favorite sports moment at Carleton?     Â
My favorite moment was swimming the mile at my last meet of freshman year. I was the only one from our team swimming, and the entire team lined up to cheer for me. It made me feel like I belonged.
Â
Why did you choose Carleton?     Â
I chose Carleton because of the emphasis on academics and it felt like I would fit in well.Â
Â
Outside of athletics, what will you miss most about Carleton? Â
I'm going to miss seeing the people who have helped me grow throughout these last four years. I will miss all the people and places that I made so many memories with.
Â
What else has your Carleton experience included?        Â
I participated in the German Studies in Berlin program during my junior fall, where I studied German literature in Berlin for the term. I also conduct research in the biology department.
Â
What is one piece of advice you would give to prospective student-athletes? Â Â
To make sure to not give all your energy to one aspect of your life, and to take time for designated free time!
Â
What is a favorite memory you have of your head coach?
I came to watch a Carleton Swim and Dive meet during my senior year of high school, when I had already committed to Carleton. Andy was so excited to see me there, and kept making jokes about how I would be there with everyone the next year. He still brings it up to this day, and it was just an example of how I knew this team was right for me.

Quote from Head Coach Andy Clark:
When it came to racing, Josie had a strong preference for the longer freestyle events, the same ones that also required the most endurance. Even when she came back from an OCS program and had only a few weeks of training, she was fired up to race the 1650 free and did so with the kind of calculated determination that only true milers have and she crushed it. Â
