ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Carleton College women's swimming & diving team finished seventh of 10 teams at the Rochester Invite. The Knights posted eight top-8 finishes overall and 23 top-16 results, including an event victory by
Julia Michalski and a school/conference record by diver
Nina Schwab.
The three-day meet with a morning prelims-evening finals structure with the teams finishing ahead of the Carleton featured three NCAA Division II programs—including nationally-ranked St. Cloud State—and three regionally-ranked D-III squads.
The biggest highlight of the meet came on Friday when Schwab won the 1-meter diving competition by nearly 80 points with her score of 486.00. That point total eclipsed her own school record set last season and also established a new MIAC overall standard, besting the previous mark (485.40) that had stood since 2013.
Thursday's Recap
Schwab won the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 427.90. She totaled 438.85 points during the preliminary round.
Haley Westrup was 13th with a score of 346.25.
Carleton top entry in the 200-yard medley relay—
Grace Hou,
Emma Yao,
Daya Tucker, and Michalski—finished ninth out of 41 entries with a time of 1:47.55.
Stephanie Baranov was Carleton's top finisher in the 500-yard freestyle, placing 15th at 5:21.56. She clocked a season-best 5:19.29 during the prelims.
Michalski finished fifth in the 200-yard IM with a season-best time of 2:11.59.
In the 50-yard freestyle,
Maya Geddes touched the wall at a season-best 24.56 to placed 12th out of 84 entries.
The first day concluded with Carleton's eighth-place showing in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Baranov, Michalski,
Zoe Morton, and
Ella Grogan combined on a time of 8:03.31. The Knights' entry of
Bryn Ashland, Geddes,
Nora Wootten, and
Chelsea Anderson finished 14th at 8:10.91.
Friday's Recap
In addition to Schwab's record-breaking victory on the 1-meter diving board, Friday's final session also included Carleton finishing fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Michalski, Geddes, Morton, and Tucker combined on a time of 1:38.17.
Michalski placed sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke after posting a time of 1:07.48. Yao finished 11th of 61 entries with a season-best time of 1:07.67.
Hou was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke as she clocked a season-best 58.59.
Friday concluded with an eighth-place result in the 400-yard medley relay. Hou, Yao, Michalski, and Morton combined on a time of 3:58.89.
Saturday's Recap
Michalski posted the second-fastest qualifying time (52.55) during the morning prelims of the 100-yard freestyle, but she did not race in the finals for the event. Instead, she focused on the 100-yard IM, which she won by nearly a full second with a time of 58.37.
Geddes (12th at 1:02.75), Morton (14th at 1:03.03), and Yao (16th at 1:03.79) all raced in the consolation final of the 100 IM.
Ashland finished 14th in the 200-yard breaststroke after clocking a season-best time of 2:31.76.
Andersen took ninth place in the 1650-yard freestyle after touching the wall at 18:18.01. Baranov placed 13th in the same event with a time of 18:34.12.
The meet concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Knights' top entry of Morton, Geddes, Baranov, and Michalski combined on a season-best time of 3:38.63, good for ninth place.
