Knights wrap up play at Warhawk Fall Invitational

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Carleton College women's tennis program sent eight players to participate in the singles and doubles draw at the two-day Warhawk Fall Invitational hosted by University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Alise Pedersen (Jr./San Anselmo, Calif./The Branson School) went undefeated as the Knights came home with first-place results in 4-of the-8 singles draws as well as 1-of the-3 doubles draws.

In addition to NCAA Division III squads from UW-Whitewater and Carleton, the seven-team field included five scholarship programs: Northern Illinois University (NCAA Division I), Lewis University (NCAA Division II), Cardinal Stritch University (NAIA), Roosevelt University (NAIA), and University of St. Francis University (NAIA)
 
Ingrid Smith (Fy./Edina, Minn./Edina) won all three matches in straight sets to prevail in the No. 5 singles draw. She defeated opponents from Lewis, Roosevelt, and Cardinal Stritch.
 
Miriam Shteyman (Fy./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) dropped only eight total games in her three victories to secure the top spot in the No. 6 singles draw. She began her run through the bracket with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Northern Illinois' Gabriella Kaminski.
 
Taylor Thulson (Sr./Louisville, Colo./Niwot) rallied from down a set to win the finals of the No 7 singles draw by a 4-6, 7-6 (5), 10-8 count.
 
Pederson took advantage of an opening-round bye to claim a 6-0, 6-0 win in the semifinals of the No. 8 singles draw. She then knocked off MacKenzie Lindow of how UW-Whitewater in the finals by a 6-3, 6-4 score.
 
Pederson teamed with Lingyu Wei (Jr./Shanghai, China/Shanghai Weiyu High School) for the win at No. 4 doubles. They beat Lindow and teammate Gianna Nikoleit in the finals, 6-3.'
 
Elsewhere in the singles brackets, after dropping her opening round match Amelia Asfaw (Fy./Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep) won her final two matches to capture fifth place in the No. 1 singles draw.
 
Mariam Nechiporuk (Fy./Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego) and Amanda Black (Fy./Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) finished seventh in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles draws, respectively.
 
Wei took third place in the No. 4 singles draw.
 
Asfaw and Black finished sixth in the No. 1 doubles draw, while Nechiporuk and Smith went 2-1 to finish third in the No. 2 doubles bracket. Thulson and Shteyman placed fourth in the No. 3 doubles draw.
