The PEAR Department is taking this opportunity to recognize and celebrate the seniors on our spring sports teams. While we are sad that we were unable to watch them compete this season, we are excited about what the future holds for each of them. Keep checking back in the coming weeks as we take the time to highlight each of these individuals. Click here for our Senior Spotlight archive.

What are your plans after graduation?    Â
I am headed to the University of Utah to work as a lab technician with the long-term goal of getting a PhD.
Â
What was your favorite sports moment at Carleton?     Â
My favorite sports moment at Carleton was when the men's cross country team won the MIAC championships in 2017. We were the underdogs and beat St. Olaf for the first time in a long time. It was really exciting, and I remember waiting at the finish line for the other runners to run through the shoot, counting each runner that came through to calculate our score. When our fifth guy went through, I jumped up and down, and screamed and shouted. We had finally won a championship. As every other runner from our team came in, we congratulated them on being a current MIAC champion.
Â
Why did you choose Carleton?     Â
I chose Carleton because of the academics and the arboretum. I had been to Carleton previously for the summer science institute. Also,
Dave Ricks was extremely energetic and seem like a fun coach to run for (which he has been)!
Â
Outside of athletics, what will you miss most about Carleton? Â
I will miss the people and the arboretum. I have many great memories of throwing frisbees on the bald spot, getting a snack at Sayles, and slacklining in the arboretum.
Â
What else has your Carleton experience included?        Â
At Carleton, I have participated in research with
Stephan Zweifel, also an acclaimed MIAC tennis coach. I also did Carleton funded internships in Seattle and London.
Â
What is one piece of advice you would give to prospective student-athletes? Â Â
Athletics are meant to be a break from the academics and a fulfilling addition to your life. Enjoy sports, have fun, and let them develop you as a person! If you enjoy the athletics the success will come.
Â
What is a favorite memory you have of your head coach?
My favorite memory of Dave is the long, somewhat rambling, conversations. He shows how much he cares about his athletes and is willing to chat with you for hours on end. He is often cited by first years for the "short phone calls" that manage to turn into an hour of spontaneous conversation.
Â
Quote from Coach Dave Ricks:
"Cameron was the free spirit on the team. He was an easy-going guy that could also turn up the heat when we needed him. I'm glad that he got to finish his career with a huge PR in the 5k at the MIAC Indoor Championships. We were hoping that he could try his first 10k this spring. I guess that he'll have to save that for some Mountain trail race."
