First-Round Results

Hudson, Wis.--Katrina Wood posted a 13-over par 84 and Laura Knutson was one stroke back as both players were inside the top 10 at the Division III Midwest Classic.

As a team, the Knights struggled a bit and find themselves in eighth place after a first-round 368. The Knights, though, are only four shots out of fourth place in a field that includes three teams ranked in the preseason National Golf Coaches Asssociation (NGCA)/Golfweek Division III top 10.

Fifth-ranked St. Thomas grabbed the first-round lead by 12 shots at 330, riding first-round leader Laura Heck's four-over par 75. Gustavus Adolphus, ranked third, is second and was paced by Rachel Roberg's 78. UST's Holly Noble is third at 79. Tenth-ranked Wartburg is third at 343.

"Laura and Katrina played really well, but we struggled to find that solid third or fourth score like we had a couple of weeks ago," Carleton head coach Eric Sieger said. "Hopefully we can clean up some of those bad holes we had today and make a move on Sunday."

The final round gets underway with a 9 a.m. shotgun.
