Amelia Asfaw tabbed MIAC Singles Player of the Year; five others also named to All-Conference team

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Senior Amelia Asfaw was named as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, and five other members of the Carleton College women's tennis team were honored as the MIAC coaches handed out the 2024-25 Women's Tennis Awards. Four players earned All-MIAC singles recognition, four were tabbed for the All-MIAC doubles, and two received All-Playoff nods.

Asfaw amassed a 15-3 singles record on the season (15-1 against D-III competition), going a perfect 9-0 in MIAC play. She lost only three sets in the 11 regular-season and postseason singles matches she played against MIAC competition.

Asfaw was also named to the All-MIAC singles team for the fourth time, and was joined there by seniors Mariam Nechiporuk and Miriam Shteyman for their third All-MIAC singles honors. Sophomore Kiley Pickens was tabbed for the team for the second time.

Nechiporuk spent most of her season at No. 2 singles but won her only match at No. 1 singles. She played to an 11-7 overall record and went 8-1 against MIAC opponents. Shteyman played at No. 3 singles, going 11-6 on the season and 7-2 in conference play. Pickens went 16-2 overall at No. 4 singles with a perfect 9-0 MIAC record, one of only four players in the conference with a perfect conference slate and six or more wins (Three of those players were Knights).

Asfaw and Nechiporuk also earned All-MIAC doubles nods for their fourth time each, with Ingrid Smith and Ryann Witter also earning spots on the team. It was Smith's fourth selection, and Witter's second. Asfaw went 13-4 on the year and 8-1 in MIAC action mostly paired with Nechiporuk, while Nechiporuk was 14-4 overall and 9-1 in conference. Smith and Witter put together a 12-7 season record as a pair, going 9-1 in the conference.

Asfaw and Pickens were also named to the MIAC All-Playoff team as the Knights finished as runners-up after a tight championship match against Gustavus Adolphus.

Carleton was nationally ranked throughout the 2025 portion of the season, going 15-4 overall and 9-1 in MIAC action. The Knights were runners-up during both the MIAC regular season and playoffs. They went 89-23 as a team during singles matches, going a scorching 56-4 in MIAC singles. In doubles play, the team was 38-18 overall and 25-5 against conference opponents.
