NORTHFIELD, Minn. – A quartet of athletes on the Carleton College women's tennis team earned recognition for performance this year on the court and in the classroom, receiving spots on the Academic All-District Team selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA).
Amelia Asfaw, Mariam Nechiporuk, and
Miriam Shteyman were honored for the third consecutive season, and
Piper Brown was recognized for the first time.
To be nominated for this award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's dual matches, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
These athletes helped Carleton remain in the national rankings throughout the season, posting a 15-4 record overall and a 9-1 mark in MIAC play. The Knights were runners-up in the MIAC regular season and playoffs. Over these seniors' careers, Carleton has gone 70-8 (0.897), winning two MIAC regular season championships and three MIAC playoff crowns. The Knights qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Asfaw, a senior economics major, is a two-time MIAC Singles Player of the Year in 2024 and 2025, the only multiple-time winner in conference history. She has a career 54-5 singles record during dual matches, and a 53-10 mark in doubles. She went 15-3 on the season, and a perfect 9-0 in conference play as a singles player, and posted a 13-4 record (8-1 MIAC), earning her fourth All-MIAC pick in both singles and doubles.
Nechiporuk, a senior biology major, also made her fourth appearance on the All-MIAC singles and doubles teams. She went 11-7 overall and 8-1 in conference play in singles, posting a 14-4 doubles record, and 9-1 in conference. For her career, Nechiporuk went 47-12 in singles matches and 54-13 in doubles.
Senior psychology major Shteyman concluded the season 11-6 overall at singles, and 7-2 in the MIAC. She went 2-1 in doubles as well. Her play earned her third All-MIAC singles team nod.
Brown is a senior and linguistics major, was one of four players in the MIAC to go undefeated in conference singles play with six or more wins, earning an 8-0 record. She went 13-2 overall, with only one loss against D-III competition.
Asfaw and Nechiporuk advanced to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced later this month.
