Women’s golf wins Rumble at the Ridge, Lu and Sichol top five

WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. – The Carleton women's golf team shot a combined 24-over-par 312 to finish atop a field of nine teams at the Rumble at the Ridge on Saturday.  The Knights closed the one-day tournament at Oneka Ridge Golf Club five shots clear of second-place Saint Benedict.

Junior Cynthia Lu led the way for the Knights, carding her lowest round of the spring with a three-over-par 75.  Four birdies helped her secure a solo second finish on the individual leaderboard.  Lu's round started strong, opening with a birdie on the par-five first hole.  She birdied twice more on the front nine to card a two-over par 38 at the turn.  Lu's back nine was clean with a birdie and two bogeys for a one-over-par 37 to close out the three-over 75.

Fellow junior Carter Sichol followed with a five-over-par 77 to finish tied for fourth in the individual standings.  The Winnetka, Ill., native opened her round three-over through the first four holes, but grabbed control of the round on the back nine.  After making the turn with a five-over 41, Sichol came home with an even-par 36, which included a bogey and a birdie on the par-four 16th.

Sophomore Mindy Zhai and senior Olivia Siebert rounded out the top four with matching scores of 80 (+8).  Zhai was one-under-par through the first three holes, as she birdied the par-four third.  But a six-over final six holes on the front nine sent her to the back with a five-over 41.  She went on to birdie two of the final three holes to card a three-over 39 on the back nine and finish with the 80.  Siebert opened her round with four straight bogeys and a six-over-par 42.  She came home strong, tallying seven straight pars on her way to the eight-over 80.

First-year Anna Lee was the final Knight in the starting lineup, recording a 13-over-par 85 for a 28th-place finish.  Juniors Sarah Zheng and Natalie Tatar each competed as individuals on Saturday.  Zheng carded a nine-over-par 81 thanks to a three-over-par 39 on the back nine.  The finish gave her a top-15 ranking with a four-way tie for 14th.  Tatar tallied 44 on the front nine and 42 on the back nine for a 14-over-par 86 and a tie for 31st.
