MINNEAPOLIS – The Carleton College men's track & field team got its indoor season started by sending three athletes to the M City Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota.
Soren Kaster placed third in the heptathlon with 4,606 points, trailing only UW-River Falls' Jacob Balcome (5,240 points)—the 2025 NCAA Division III indoor champion—and Maki Whelan (4,757), a NCAA D-I athlete from the University of St. Thomas. Kaster's score was third-best in program history (see chart below) and is No. 3 in Division III so far this season.
Kaster clocked times of 7.44 in the 60-meter dash, 9.03 in the 60-meter hurdles, and 2:53.49 in the 1000-meter run; measured 10.09 meters in the shot put and a personal-best 6.31 meters in the long jump; and cleared 1.70 meters in the high jump and a MIAC-best 4.35 meters in the pole vault.
Teammate
Reed White made his collegiate debut and finished sixth in the heptathlon with 3,962 points, which ranks No. 11 all-time at Carleton. He clocked times of 7.48 in the 60-meter dash, 9.73 in the 60-meter hurdles, and a MIAC-leading 2:49.82 in the 1000-meter run. White measured 5.48 meters in the long jump and 6.35 meters in the shot put before clearing 1.58 meters in the high jump and soaring 4.25 meters in the pole vault.
Daniel Scheider posted the MIAC's top time this season in the 600-meter dash (1:24.73) while finishing fourth behind an unattached entry and two Division I runners.
