NORTHFIELD, Minn. – In recognition of their work both in the classroom and on the court, four members of the No. 14-ranked Carleton College women's tennis team were tabbed for the Academic All-District Team selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA). Amelia Asfaw, Mary Hose, Mariam Nechiporuk, and Miriam Shteyman all collected the award for the second consecutive year.
 
To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, must have participated in at least 70 percent of the team's dual matches, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
 
All four honorees played huge roles in helping the Knights go 18-1 on the season, win both the MIAC regular-season and postseason crowns, and advance to the second round of the NCAA Championships. They have helped Carleton go 56-4 (.933) overall spanning the last three seasons, with each season culminating in a trip to the national tournament.
 
A three-time All-MIAC pick in both singles and doubles, Asfaw is a junior economics major. She was voted the 2024 MIAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Year, going a perfect 13-0 on the season and dropping just two sets across the entire year from her No. 1 singles position. Asfaw owns a career 39-2 record in singles and has gone 41-6 during doubles contests. She was also the top-ranked singles player in NCAA Region VII and joined with Hose to form the MIAC Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Year, as the pairing went 13-1 on the season and was ranked No. 1 in the region. They will participate in the doubles bracket at the upcoming NCAA Individual Championships, while Asfaw will also compete in the singles bracket.
 
Hose, a senior economics major, went 16-2, mostly from No. 2 singles, with her only setbacks coming to DII-Minnesota State Mankato and No. 13 Case Western Reserve in the NCAA Tournament. Outside of those matches, Hose did not lose a single set, with only two sets finishing closer than 6-2 in her favor. The third-ranked singles player in NCAA Region VII, she was a three-time All-MIAC pick in both singles and doubles. She posted a 40-6 career singles ledger while going 40-7 in doubles.
 
Nechiporuk is a junior and a biology major, who like Asfaw and Hose, is a three-time All-MIAC selection in both singles and doubles. She went 8-3 in singles and 11-3 in doubles this season and boasts a 36-5 career record in solo play, while going 40-8 in doubles.
 
Like her teammates, Shteyman has collected All-MIAC status for singles each of the last three seasons. The junior psychology major, went 13-2 in singles and 3-0 during doubles matches. Her career record sits at 33-9 for singles and 10-0 in doubles.
