WAVERLY, Iowa – The No. 21-ranked Carleton College women's golf team sits second out of 17 teams after the opening round of the Wartburg Fall Invite at Prairie Links Golf Course.
Carter Sichol is one shot off the lead and tied for second place after carding a 1-under par 71.
Mindy Zhai is tied for 14th at 74 (+3), one stroke ahead of teammate
Cynthia Lu.
Olivia Siebert and
Sarah Zheng tallied matching scores of 77 (+5), while
Taylor Kang closed the first round with an 85 (+13).
Carleton had a team score of 299 on Saturday, 11 shots behind No. 8-ranked St. Catherine. No. 14 Illinois Wesleyan is tied with Dubuque for third place at 302.
Grinnell College (receiving votes in the nation) is tied for fifth with a score of 303, while No. 24 UW-Whitewater is eighth (306) and No. 23 Bethel is ninth (307).
Tee times for Sunday's final round begin at 8:30 a.m.
