STILLWATER, Minn. – The No. 21-ranked Carleton College women's golf team finished second at the 13-team St. Catherine Invitational. Four Knights finished inside the top-15, led by
Sarah Zheng's third-place result.
Carleton wrapped up the weekend with a team score of 619 (303-316). Tournament host and No. 8-ranked St. Catherine captured the team total with a score of 599 (305-294). No. 23 Bethel University finished third at 625.
Zheng birdied three consecutive holes in the middle of Sunday's round and concluded the 36-hole event with a score of 149 (73-76, +5). She led the field in scoring on the par 4s over the two rounds, and her six birdies were tied for third-most.
Mindy Zhai placed ninth in the field of 71 golfers tying Zheng for the team lead with a final-round 76. She finished at +7 (75-76=151), while playing in the scoring lineup for the first time this fall. Zhai was 1 of only 6 golfers to play the par 3s at even-par or better and her 25 pars were only one behind the category leaders this weekend.
Cynthia Lu (+11, 76-79=155) placed 15th overall. She was 1 of only 8 competitors to play the par 5s at under par for the weekend.
Taylor Kang, playing as an individual entrant, tied for 18th place as she followed up an opening round 81 with a 77 on Sunday to finish at 158 (+14).
Olivia Siebert (+20, 79-85=164) and
Natalie Tatar (+21, 80-85=165) tied for 31st and 35th, respectively.
Carleton led the field with 105 pars during the weekend but managed only 13 birdies over the two rounds.
