MINNEAPOLIS — The Carleton College women's swimming & diving team wrapped up the four-day MIAC Championships in sixth place. The Knights turned in two more all-conference swims on Saturday.
St. Catherine (686 points) captured the team title for the third consecutive year, this time edging Gustavus Adolphus by 14 points. Carleton finished with 357 team points, only four behind Saint Benedict.
Scoring on Saturday began with the 1650-yard freestyle.
Julia Luljak (Sr./Baltimore, Md./Park School) placed eighth with a time of 18:38.92, nearly 35 seconds improvement on her seed time.
Stephanie Baranov (Fy./Streamwood, Ill./Hoffman Estates) finished ninth after touching the wall at 18:41.42.
Maddie Damberg-Ott (Sr./London, Great Britain/Channing School) posted the Knights' top result in the 200-yad backstroke, clocking a time of 2:06.84
A trio of Knights raced in the finals of the 100-yard freestyle.
Raine Bernhard (Sr./Champaign, Ill./University) took 10th at 54.47, followed by
Eleanor Hebard (Fy./Bremerton, Wash./Central Kitsap) in 14th at 55.10 and
Sophie Baggett (Sr./La Crosse, Wis./Logan) in 16th at 55:52.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Luljak earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention after placing fourth at 2:24.89, which was more than 2.3 seconds better than the time she registered during the morning prelims.
Elizabeth Chatard (So./San Anselmo, Calif./Sir Francis Drake) took seventh in the same event, notching a time of 2:30.58, while
Ashley Rosenberg (So./Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) won the "B" final with a time of 2:31.23, dropping nearly a full second off her prelims time.
Caroline Crampton (So./Plymouth, Mass./Sturgis) was consistent in her 200-yard butterfly performances, swimming to a time of 2:14.99 in prelims and 2:14.97 in the finals to finish in seventh place.
Isabelle Riley (So./Singapore/Singapore American School) dropped 2.6 seconds off her prelims time and place 12th at 2:17.14.
Brenna Russell (Jr./Andover, Minn./Andover) earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention after finishing fourth in the 1-meter diving competition with an 11-dive score of 400.15 in the finals.
The Knights closed the conference meet by finishing sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Bernhard, Hebard, Luljack, and Baggett combined on a time of 3:38.82.
