ST. PETER, Minn. – The Carleton College women's swimming & diving team opened the 2023 portion of its schedule with a dual meet at Gustavus Adolphus College. The Knights won four events but lost the dual meet by a 192-108 score.
"I thought both of our teams showed a lot of grit today and put out high energy levels that were needed to compete against two strong Gustavus squads," said Carleton head coach
Andy Clark. "There wasn't one event where our swimmers and divers didn't push themselves hard. I am proud of the efforts our teams produced today."
Stephanie Baranov (Fy./Streamwood, Ill./Hoffman Estates) and
Julia Luljak (Sr./Baltimore, Md./Park School) finished 1-2 in the 1000-yard freestyle with season-best times of 11:26.13 and 11:29.83, respectively.
Elizabeth Chatard (So./San Anselmo, Calif./Sir Francis Drake) prevailed in a close battle in the 100-yard breaststroke, reaching the wall in 1:10.73, which was good for a winning margin of 0.08.
Maddie Damberg-Ott (Sr./London, Great Britain/Channing School) earned first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a winning time of 2:14.20.
Chatard and Luljak were the top-two racers in the 200-yard breaststroke, covering the distance in 2:33.70 and 2:34.68, respectively.
In diving,
Brenna Russell (Jr./Andover, Minn./Andover) was Carleton's top performer, finishing second on the 3-meter board (215.50 points) and third in the 1-meter competition (203.65).
