MINNEAPOLIS — The opening day of competition at the 2022 MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships included the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay. The Carleton College women's team finished sixth and fifth, respectively, in those events. The Knights are sixth of nine teams after the first day.
In the 200-yard medley relay,
Lydia Boyum (Sr./Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson),
Elizabeth Chatard (Fy./San Anselmo, Calif./Archie Williams),
Natalie Lafferty (Sr./Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley), and
Raine Bernhard (Jr./Champaign, Ill./University High School) combined on a time of 1:49.79. That was more than 3.3 seconds better than Carleton's seed time in the event.
The 800-yard freestyle relay saw
Alison Cameron (Sr./Reno, Nev./Reno),
Serena Lee (Sr./Muscat, Oman/The American International School of Muscat),
Madi Smith (Sr./Denver, Colo./Denver School of Science and Technology-Stapleton), and Boyum combine on a time of 8:00.65, almost 17 seconds better than their season-best mark entering the conference meet.

Carleton returns to the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center for morning prelims (10:30 a.m.) and evening finals (6:30 p.m.) on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Thursday's schedule includes 3-meter diving, 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, and the 400 medley relay.
