Men's Basketball game versus Augsburg on Jan. 29 canceled

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College Men's Basketball home game scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 29 against Augsburg University has been canceled due to COVID-19 protocols. MIAC conference games that are not played due to COVID protocols are considered "no contests" and do not affect the conference standings.

The Carleton-Augsburg women's basketball game is still scheduled to be played at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Due to campus policy, no spectators will be permitted at West Gym, but live stats and live video will be available.

At this time there are no plans in place to re-schedule the canceled men's game. However, if the teams elect to play it later this season, that re-scheduled contest would be considered a non-conference game.

Saturday's men's game would have featured MIAC-leading Augsburg (14-2, 11-0 MIAC) versus a Carleton (12-4, 9-3 MIAC) squad that sits third in the conference standings and has won 6 of 7 games this month.

This is the second consecutive MIAC game for Augsburg that has been canceled due to COVID protocols, while the Carleton men also lost their Jan. 19 contest at Gustavus Adolphus.

Last Friday, the MIAC announced that owing to the number of canceled games across the conference due to COVID protocols, both the 2022 MIAC Men's and Women's Basketball Playoffs would become "All-Comers Tournaments" this season, meaning all teams will be eligible to participate in single-elimination playoffs. Those tournaments will begin on Feb. 19.

Carleton Men's Basketball is next scheduled to play at Macalester College at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2.
