NORTHFIELD, Minn. --
Sydney Marsh (Jr./Austin, Minn./Austin),
Grace Blanchette (So./Honolulu , Hawaii/Punahou), and
Eve Farrell (Jr./Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi) took part in day one of the MIAC Heptathlon at Laird Stadium. After some early stumbles, the trio bounced back and capped the afternoon with each posting a personal-best time in the 200-meter dash.
Â
Marsh has accumulated 2,241 points to rank sixth, while Blanchette is ninth at 2133, and Farrell is 11th with 1,737 points. Peyton Selle of Concordia leads the pack with a total of 2,559 points.
Â
The heptathlon opened with the 100-meter hurdles, but falls by Blanchette and Farrell hurt their times and limited their point totals.
Â
Blanchette bounced back and established new PRs in the high jump (1.47m), shot put (9.03m) and 200-meter dash (28.29). Farrell cleared 1.50 meters in the high jump, measured 9.75 meters in the shot put, and finished the 200-meter dash in 29.70 for a new personal best.
Â
Marsh clocked a time of 17.37 in the hurdles then posted marks of 1.44 meters in the high jump and 8.96 meters in the shot put before concluding the day with a personal-best time of 27.52 in the 200-meter dash.
Â
"As all multi's know, you can never be complacent or take an event for granted, because sometimes things don't always go as planned," said Carleton head coach
Donna Ricks. "Our multi's endured some challenges in the hurdles today. True to their nature, they persevered and came back with multiple personal best performances. This speaks loudly to the strength of these women."
Â
Day two of the heptathlon includes the long jump, javelin throw, and 800-meter run. Competition resumes at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 7.
