NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's track & field team won six events at their first meet of the season. The Knights finished second of three teams at the St. Olaf Invitational.
Â
This was Carleton's first competition since the 2020 MIAC Indoor Championships.
Â
"It felt soooo good to see our team back in uniform after a year off," said Carleton head coach
Donna Ricks. "We kicked some rust off and had some solid performances!"
Â
Riley Roberts (Fy./Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington) won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.38 and returned later to place second in the 200-meter dash (27.87).
Â
"Riley has been looking great in practice, and we finally had the opportunity to see her race," said Ricks. "We are excited about what she can contribute to the team."
Â
Clara Mayfield (So./Manhattan, Kan./Manhattan) and
Amanda Mosborg (Sr./Bloomington, Minn./Edina) earned the top two spots in the 5000-meter run, crossing the line at 17:35.55 and 17:51.09, respectively, to put both Knights within the top-15 nationally. The third-place finisher in the race was more than 1:49 behind Carleton's top duo.
Â
Carleton capped the track events with a first-place result in the 4x400-meter relay.
Alice Cutter (Fy./New York, N.Y./Poly Prep Day School),
Amy Kropp (Jr./Logan, Utah/Logan),
Maggy Osha (Sr./Oakland, Calif./The Athenian School), and
Sydney Marsh (Jr./Austin, Minn./Austin) combined on a time of 4:16.18.
Â
Osha, a gymnast in high school, did not compete in track & field prior to attending Carleton. Through hard work, determination. and love for her team, she not only warranted her a role as team captain but has earned her position on both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Â
The Knights had success in the field events, too. After setting a personal best in the 800-meter run,
Eve Farrell (Jr./Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi) won the high jump after clearing 1.55 meters, and added a new PR in the shot put. Marsh placed first in the pole vault by clearing 3.05 meters.
Grace Blanchette (So./Honolulu , Hawaii/Punahou) took first place in her first-ever javelin competition, measuring a distance of 28.17 meters.
