Senior Spotlight: Madeline Prins

The PEAR Department is taking this opportunity to recognize and celebrate the seniors on our spring sports teams. While we are sad that we were unable to watch them compete this season, we are excited about what the future holds for each of them. Keep checking back in the coming weeks as we take the time to highlight each of these individuals. Click here for our Senior Spotlight archive.

Varsity sports played at Carleton:
Women's Tennis (4 years)

Hometown:
Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Majors:
Computer Science and Cinema & Media Studies

What are your plans after graduation?
Working at Disney

What was your favorite sports moment at Carleton?
Beating Bethel for the MIAC Championship so we could go to Nationals.

Why did you choose Carleton?
It's obviously academically very prestigious and it was different enough from the environment that I grew up in to experience something new.

Outside of athletics, what will you miss most about Carleton?
The community.

What else has your Carleton experience included?
I worked in Software for my sophomore summer and junior winter breaks, worked in web design at a media company in South Africa last summer, and completed an externship in Los Angeles at Hungry Man/The Mill's Film studios in this past winter break.

What is one piece of advice you would give to prospective student-athletes?
Learn to manage your time and schedule early on. Take a diverse course load each term - don't take all stem classes or all humanities classes at once.

What is a favorite memory you have of your head coach?
My favorite memory of Luciano was when we made a bet about whether we could make it to Nationals last year, and he had to wear a pair of tiny children's sunglasses and a coconut bra around our hotel and to the first match at Nationals.

Quote from Coach Luciano Battaglini:
"Maddie started in our lineup for the last four years and is the best doubles player we have had in the last 13 or so seasons. As a double major and team captain this season, she did a wonderful job balancing a heavy academic schedule and playing for a competitive national team that won multiple MIAC titles. She also completed multiple internships (nationally and internationally) throughout her college career as she maximized her time at Carleton. Maddie is a hard-worker and an organized and determined student-athlete who has grown so much as a person and has helped our team reach many important goals."
