Hilton Head Island, S.C. -- Sarah Russell and Eryn Koch picked up a key victory at first singles, but Hope took the other two doubles matches and four of the six singles matches in upsetting the Carleton College women's tennis team, 6-3.

The Knights (8-2), coming off a 9-0 loss to the nation's 19th-ranked team in the University of Chicago, found themselves trailing regional foe Hope 2-1 after doubles play. Russell and Koch took an 8-4 decision at first doubles, but the third doubles tandem of Abby Beggs and Christina Walker lost for only the second time in nine matches this season, falling in a 9-8 decision that went to a tiebreaker.

Things didn't get much better for the Knights in singles play. Without Russell, the region's 14th-ranked player, participating in singles action the Knights struggled. Shelley Getzendanner took a straight-sets win at fourth singles, moving her record to 7-2 in dual-match action this season. Lisa Ottum, playing up one slot like Getzendanner, won 6-3, 6-0 to move to 8-1 in dual-match play this season. Walker, meanwhile, suffered a tough setback at third singles. After winning the first set in a tiebreaker, she lost the second set in similar fashion and dropped the third set, 6-0.

The Knights close out their spring break trip with two more key regional clashes. They face the region's 10th-ranked team, Kalamazoo College, on Friday, March 24, before closing the trip with a Saturday, March 25 tilt with UW-Whitewater, which is tied for 15th in latest regional rankings.
