NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Anderson Cole (So./Aspen, Colo./Aspen) tossed his fourth career complete game in leading the Carleton College baseball team to a 5-3 triumph over Concordia College. The Knights proved unable to complete the sweep as the Cobbers scored a 4-2 win thanks to a pair of late unearned runs.

Cole (2-1) worked out of a first-inning jam then dominated the middle portion of the contest. He was finally solved for two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh before inducing a game-ending groundout with the bases loaded.

The Knights tallied their initial run in the second inning when Ray Yong (So./Elmhurst, Ill./York) swiped home as part of a double steal with David Stillerman (So./Evanston, Ill./Evanston).

Alex Wirta (Sr./ Corte Madera, Calif./Redwood) contributed a RBI double and Jeff Dsida (So./Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) singled home another in the third to make it 3-0 in favor of the home team.

After the Cobbers closed within a run, Carleton responded with two big insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Erik Fabry (Sr./Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) doubled with one out, advanced to third on Stillerman’s infield single and cruised home on a throwing error. Later in the frame, Stillerman was awarded home on a balk.

Game two saw Wirta notch RBI doubles in the first and third innings in support of starting pitcher, Paul Dimick (Sr./Northfield, Minn./Northfield). The southpaw retired nine straight batters before opening the top of the fifth with a walk, followed by two singles to get Concordia’s first run home.

The Cobbers tied the score with a run in the sixth and pushed ahead with a pair of unearned tallies in the top of the seventh.
