Minneapolis – Carleton dropped only its second conference match of the season, suffering an 8-1 defeat at the hands of the College of St. Catherine in a match-up between two regionally-ranked squads.

Diane Danforth posted Carleton's lone win at third singles. The loss drops the Knights into a three-way tie for second place in the MIAC standings.

The Wildcats (14-6, 8-2 MIAC), ranked eighth in the latest ITA central region rankings, took all three doubles matches from the Knights, who are ranked 10th in the region. Heading into the dual match, Carleton (13-6, 8-2 MIAC) had lost a combined four doubles matches against its previous nine conference foes.

St. Catherine continued its strong play in singles, winning five of six matches, including straight set victories at the first, second, fourth and sixth positions. Using all her tennis 'tools,' junior co-captain Danforth beautifully crafted points, winning in straight sets over Briggs Rolfsrud 6-3, 6-2. The losses for Abby Beggs and Eryn Koch were only the second in MIAC play this season in 10 matches.

Carleton returns to action on Friday and Saturday, April 23-24, co-hosting the MIAC Championships with St. Olaf College. Action gets underway at Carleton, St. Olaf and Northfield High School at 9 a.m. both days.
