Hilton Head, S.C. -- Carleton closed out its spring break trip by dropping a thrilling match to Kalamazoo College (Mich.), 5-4, in a key regional showdown. The Knights captured two of the three doubles matches to take an early lead. First-year player Abby Beggs was undefeated on spring break at third singles, taking a 6-1, 6-0 victory over her Hornet counterpart. Classmate Christina Walker gained momentum after a winning the first-set tiebreaker, winning 7-6, 6-2 at fifth singles.
The match was tied at 4-4 with only the sixth singles match remaining. First-year player Shelley Getzendanner overcame a first set deficit to win 7-5 but fell short in the second set tiebreak and third-set superbreaker.
