St. Peter, Minn. -- The Carleton College women's tennis team advanced to the MIAC Championships title match, but fell 7-0 to seventh-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College for the second straight season.

The Knights ended their 2006 campaign at 14-7 overall.

The Gusties (27-4), ranked second in the region as well, opened with three decisive doubles victories to take a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles play. The tournament-host Gusties secured wins at first, second and fourth singles to clinch their 15th straight MIAC women's tennis title and 21 of a possible 25.

The loss marked the end of seniors Sarah Russell and Eryn Koch's careers. The duo helped the Knights finish in the MIAC's top three all four years of their careers and advance to the MIAC title match each of the past two seasons. Russell posted a 10-8 singles mark, playing seven regionally-ranked foes during the season, and Koch was 16-9, primarily from the third singles slot. The duo was regionally ranked in doubles the entire year and ended with a 16-7 record, winning seven of nine conference matches and likely earning All-MIAC honors.
