St. Peter, Minn. - The Carleton College women's tennis team, seeded third, swept through all three doubles matches and posted a 7-0 defeat of Hamline in the MIAC Championships quarterfinals.

The victory moved the Knights (13-6) into the conference tournament semifinals against second-seeded St. Benedict on Saturday.

The Knights swept the doubles matches, dropping a combined five games. The junior tandem of Abby Beggs and Christina Walker served and attacked well, winning 8-1 from the third slot.

When the match moved to singles, the middle of the line-up closed out the Pipers. Senior Eryn Koch was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at third singles, Walker posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory from the fourth position and junior Shelly Getzendanner added a 6-2, 6-4 win at fifth singles. Sophomore Lisa Ottum also was victorious, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, at sixth singles. Sarah Russell at first singles and Beggs at second singles didn't complete their matches, as the team match was played to decision due to time constraints with the tournament moving indoors.

Carleton now advances to Saturday's semifinals to face St. Benedict. The Blazers edged the Knights, 5-4, in the regular-season meeting on April 12.
