Northfield, Minn. -- Playing their final home match of the season, the Carleton College women's tennis put its first MIAC loss of the season behind it by beating Hamline University, 7-2.

After yesterday's tough loss at the flatlands of the College of St. Benedict, the Knights (11-5, 7-1 MIAC) returned to kinder, gentler Bell Field. The Knights captured two of the three doubles matches. Doubles teams Shelley Getzendanner and Lisa Ottum overcame an early deficit, winning at the number one position. Juniors Abby Beggs and Christina Walker cruised to victory with their strong serving and net play.

Eager to continue their success after doubles Getzendanner and Ottum rushed back onto the courts for singles action; both posted straight-set victories. ittingly, senior captain Eryn Koch, relishing her last home match and working on her tan, captured the crucial fifth dual match point with her victory at the number two position.Beggs soon followed with her victory at number one singles. Putting the finishing touches on a beautiful day for tennis was sophomore Sarah Wehrly. She used her relentlessly deep groundstrokes as well as every last moment of daylight to win at number six singles.

Carleton finishes its regular-season slate with two road matches next week. The Knights travel to Macalester College on April 18 and conference-leading Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, April 22.
