Rochester, Minn. -- The Carleton College women's tennis, riding another sweep of doubles play, dispatched of regional foe Grinnell College (Iowa), 8-1, marking the Knights' fourth straight win to start the 2006 season.

Carleton (4-0) came out serving strong in doubles play, sweeping all three positions. Juniors Christina Walker and Abby Beggs displayed their all-court games, winning 8-1 at third doubles.

Grinnell challenged Carleton in singles play. The number one position featured Central regionally ranked players Sarah
Russell (#13) and Grinnell's Shweta Khajuria (#25). Russell's punishing groundstrokes prevailed over Khajuria's solid all-court coverage and impressive digs. Junior Shelley Getzendanner overcame her opponent's second set comeback, and prevailed in the superbreaker at fifth singles.

Second singles showcased the powerful groundstrokes of Beggs and the Pioneers' Rachel Engh, with Engh winning with her consistent superbreaker play.

Carleton resumes MIAC play next week against the University of St. Thomas on Friday, Feb. 24 at the Owatonna Tennis Center at 6 p.m. and against the College of St. Catherine on Saturday,
Feb. 25, also at Owatonna at 12 anoon.
