Owatonna, Minn. -- Shelley Getzendanner and Lisa Ottum keyed a doubles sweep while Sarah Russell overpowered her opponent at first singles as the Carleton College women's tennis team cruised past rival St. Olaf College, 8-1.
Getzendanner and Ottum posted an 8-5 win at second doubles as the Knights started a bit slowly but rallied late to take all three doubles matches.
The Knights (3-0, 3-0 MIAC) dominated when play moved to singles, keyed by Russell's 6-3, 6-0 win win over Emily Eggert, using punishing groundstrokes to cruise to her third victory in duel-match action this season.
Getzendanner and Ottum both kept the momentum gained in doubles play going into singles action. Getzendanner posted a 6-2, 6-1 win from the fifth slot over Ellen Goerss and Ottum tallied a 6-0, 6-4 decision at sixth singles.
The Knights are back on action on Saturday, Feb. 18, playing regional foe Grinnell College (Iowa) in Rochester, Minn., at 6 p.m.
