Winona, Minn. – The Carleton College women's tennis team got off to a convincing start in MIAC play with a 9-0 sweep of St. Mary's University.

The Knights lost only four games total in doubles play and recorded straight-set victories in five of six singles matches. The singles' wins was higlighted by senior Sarah Russell, ranked 13th in the region, taking a 6-1, 6-2 decision at first singles, while she teamed with classmate Eryn Koch for a 8-1 win at first doubles. Koch also posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at third singles.

The Knights return to MIAC play on Saturday, Feb. 11, hosting Concordia College, Moorhead at the Northwest Athletic Club in Burnsville at 3 p.m.
